RL 2: Lakeshore Residential 2

A zone in North Cariboo Area Rural Land Use Bylaw No. 3505, 1999 (Cariboo Regional District). Our summary of Section 8.10 of the bylaw as consolidated to 2022-11-10.

The Cariboo Regional District doesn't publish its zoning map as open data, so a PlaceDossier report can't say whether a lot is zoned RL 2. Two bylaws zone Electoral Areas A, B, C and I: No. 3504 the fringe around Quesnel, No. 3505 the rest. Their rural and lakeshore zones set the same rules (the resource zone is R/A in No. 3505 and RA 1 in No. 3504); other parts of the district have bylaws of their own. Ask the CRD's planning department which zone a lot is in, or find it on the CRD's planning map.

What the zone allows

Homes allowed
One house, with a secondary suite or a carriage house; no duplex
Main uses
Lakeshore home, home business, bed and breakfast
Smallest lot for a subdivision
0.8 ha, with 45.5 m on the water
Lot coverage
20%
Height limit
10.67 m
Setbacks
Front and street side 7.6 m (4.57 m beside a lake access road), inside 1.5 m, rear 3 m

Whether a house may have more than one of these extras at once is unclear: the bylaw lists each home use joined by "or" (s. 8.11.1(a) and the matching clause of each zone). Ask the CRD.

No building within 7.6 m of a lake or 30 m of a stream (15 m where the ground is 6 m above it), with floors above flood level (s. 7.2; s. 4.2 of Bylaw 3504).

Bylaw No. 3504 sets the same rules (s. 5.16).

Site-specific exceptions listed in the bylaw by legal description can add or change uses for one property, and development permit areas, the ALR and building rules apply on top. Confirm with the CRD's planning department before you buy or build.
