Soowa Mountain wildfire, 2017

The Soowa Mountain wildfire started on August 30, 2017, caused by lightning. It was declared out on November 2, 2017. Its mapped perimeter covers 6,271 ha: the 16th-largest of 2017's 43 large fires, and the 262nd-largest in BC since 1990. All of it was in East Kootenay, Electoral Area B. The nearest municipality, Fernie, is roughly 31 km away; the fire covered about 4 times the land area of it.
