PR: Parks and Recreation
A zone in Zoning Bylaw No. 1342, 2025 (Town of Gibsons). Our summary of Section 2.4.3 of the bylaw as consolidated to 2026-06-23.
What the zone allows
- Homes allowed
- None: the zone lists no home (s. 2.4.3(2))
- Main uses
- Parks and recreation (public leisure and outdoor activity: playgrounds, parks, community gardens, indoor and outdoor sports facilities), conservation (natural areas, landscape buffers, trails); accessory buildings and food and beverage service; plus what every zone allows: public utilities, streets, community care, daycare and emergency services (ss. 2.4.3(2), 3.8.1; definitions in Part 6)
- Smallest lot for a subdivision
- None set: the zone has no subdivision requirements
- Lot coverage
- None set in the zone
- Height limit
- 10.5 m (s. 2.4.3(3.1))
- Setbacks
- Front 9 m, sides 3 m, street side 3 m, rear 9 m (s. 2.4.3(3.2)-(3.5))
The zone is for public recreation, outdoor activities, sports and community gatherings (s. 2.4.3(1)): most PR land is the Town's parks, fields and halls, so a lot here is rarely for sale (our reading); ask the Town what a lot here may be used for before you buy.
Landscaping and screening follow Part 3, s. 3.4; parking Part 4 (s. 2.4.3(4), (5)).
No use may send smells, noise, vibration, heat, glare or radiation beyond the lot lines, and no farming or animals other than pets (s. 3.8.2).
Short-term rental is allowed only in an operator's principal residence (s. 3.7.4), and the zone allows no home, so it isn't open here (our reading).
Site-specific exceptions listed in the bylaw by legal description can add or change uses for one property, and development permit areas, the ALR and building rules apply on top. Confirm with the Town of Gibsons' planning department before you buy or build.
