PlaceDossier / Zoning / Cariboo Regional District

RL 2: Lakeshore Residential 2

A zone in South Cariboo Area Zoning Bylaw No. 3501, 1999 (Cariboo Regional District). Our summary of Section 5.17 of the bylaw as consolidated to 2026-02-06.

The Cariboo Regional District doesn't publish its zoning map as open data, so a PlaceDossier report can't say whether a lot is zoned RL 2. South Cariboo Area Zoning Bylaw No. 3501 zones all of Electoral Areas G, H and L, from Lac La Hache and 108 Mile Ranch to Canim Lake, Lone Butte and Green Lake; other parts of the district have bylaws of their own. Ask the CRD's planning department which zone a lot is in, or find it on the CRD's planning map.

Only one of the extra homes the zone lists, never two. A secondary suite or a carriage house is at most 90 m², a secondary dwelling at most 130 m²; the owner must live in the house or the suite, and none may be a vacation rental or be strata-titled (s. 4.26).

No rentals of under four weeks (short-term rentals) in this zone, other than a bed and breakfast (s. 4.17).

No building within 7.6 m of a lake or 30 m of a stream (15 m where the ground is 6 m above it), with floors above flood level: 3 m above a stream or Green, Canim and Mahood lakes, 1.5 m above Lac La Hache and lakes of 15 km or less, where no flood level is set (s. 4.2).

Where the zone's code carries (S), the land may slide, flood or erode: nothing new is built or subdivided there without an engineer's report that the site is safe (s. 4.3).

Special exception zones change some of these rules for the lots the bylaw lists (s. 5.17.3).

Site-specific exceptions listed in the bylaw by legal description can add or change uses for one property, and development permit areas, the ALR and building rules apply on top. Confirm with the CRD's planning department before you buy or build.
